Holi is returning to Tower Lakes for its third year in a row and we want everyone to come out and celebrate. Holi is a Hindu celebration of the end of winter and the return of spring. It also represents a time for neighbors to come together, share a great time, and leave old disputes in the past. A major part of that celebration is the throwing of colors, which is cornstarch dyed with food coloring.
While Holi was technically way back March, it is a little colder here in Tower Lakes than it is in India, so we have delayed our party for warmer weather. To celebrate this year, we will be hosting a bring-your-own barbecue at Hussissian Park (the soccer field) on June 22nd, starting at 2 pm. We will have some Indian foods, snacks, and beverages to try but all are welcome to bring what they want to eat and drink (and maybe a little extra to share). Of course there will be powder…and lots of it!
Holi is celebrated with the throwing of colored powder and a water gun fight. Traditionally white shirts are work to show off the colors but you are free to wear what you like, just be prepared for those clothes to get stained.
Please RSVP HEREby June 1, so we can make sure we have enough powder to go around! (Donations to support the event will be accepted but are not expected) Any questions can be directed to shaunkildare@hotmail.com.
