While many people were enjoying a day off work or school, thirty one dedicated volunteers were gathering at the office of BACT | Barrington Area Conservation Trust to participate in the Trust’s first National Day of Service work day.

Working at the Trust’s new Far Field Preserve in Barrington Hills, the volunteers logged in a total of over 64 hours removing invasive buckthorn, honeysuckle, and barberry from the edge of a former agricultural field being restored to a native oak savanna.

during the sunny winter work day.

“We were thrilled with the enthusiasm and teamwork demonstrated by everyone who participated in our first National Day of Service,” says executive director Lisa Woolford. “We look forward to having more work days in 2015 to build community, improve natural areas, and prepare for a better future.”

BACT is currently looking for individuals, organizations, businesses, and congregations that would like to partner with them for work days in 2015. For more information, please contact April Anderson at (847) 387-3149 or e-mail april@bactrust.org.
